I was so happy to take on the role of Veronica in Mad King Production’s Heathers last autumn! Veronica has been a dream role of mine for a long while, ever since I shared headphones with one of my best friends at a middle school lunch table and heard “Beautiful” for the first time. She’s sarcastic and spunky, and I adore her awkward attempts to navigate an impossible situation. I also tested myself quite thoroughly when I was prescribed six weeks of vocal rest by my doctor in the middle of the rehearsal process. Learning how to bounce back vocally for this show with two weeks until opening night was an experience I will never forget, and I learned so much about my own strength and drive as an artist. Soprano-Belt divas unite! I had so many favorite moments in this show, but I’m not sure anything can top “Dead Girl Walking (Reprise)” when Veronica takes back her power.
