An actor is not an emergency medical technician. We are not on-call plumbers, firefighters, or pilots, roles that demand constant vigilance to when one is needed. However, we are called in for last minute “emergencies” on occasion, and for me, this was one such.
I was cast as Maya in the Rebel of the Forsaken series a few months before the proof of concept shoot, and had been preparing excitedly for my role! I am so excited, as a book lover, to dive into adaptation territory, and I’ve had the best time getting closer with my on screen bestie “Evelyn” (played by Brielle Summerhays).
For the proof of concept, I was supposed to be filming my scene on Day 2! In fact, I was on my way to another set I was stunt coordinating (getting there a few hours early), when the producer called me. The schedule had shifted and they needed me on Day 1! I made some quick calls in the car and immediately u-turned, heading to set in Eagle Mountain.
I can say, I was nervous about getting filming done in time to make it to my prior commitment, but luckily in this case, we were one-take wonders!
